Republican presidential candidate Patrick Buchanan toured the area surrounding the Los Angeles Coliseum a few days after riots erupted in the area. The riots began following the acquittal of four white Los Angeles policemen charged with beating a black suspect. Mr. Buchanan toured the encampment of National Guardsmen sent into the neighborhood to keep the peace. Mr. Buchanan also responded to questions from reporters concerning the riots, and said he would have advised sending in the National Guard earlier.
