Several administration officials briefed reporters on the upcoming Summit of the Americas, which will begin on Friday and will be attended by leaders of 34 countries. The summit will focus on global economic trade and strategy. The president’s objectives during the summit will be: 1) to make concrete progress towards a hemispheric trade agreement; 2) to consolidate these democratic gains to make democracy stronger and more secure in the hemisphere; and 3) to find areas of cooperation on sustainable development in the hemisphere. close
