Coinciding with the dedication of the National World War II Memorial the Smithsonian Center for Folklife and Cultural Heritage held a four-day “Tribute to a Generation: National World War II Reunion” on the National Mall in a series of tented pavilions and stages. One of the tents was called “Wartime Stories.” On this panel two veterans talked their service during the war, and especially about the challenges of being African-Americans in the armed services. After their reminiscences they responded to questions from members of the audience
