Nick Taylor spoke about his book American Made: The Enduring Legacy of the WPA - When FDR Put the Nation to Work. The book documents the history of the Works Progress Administration, a federal employment resource instituted by Franklin Roosevelt in 1935 to counter the unemployment of a quarter of the American workforce. Created four years after the onset of the Great Depression the WPA employed 8.5 million American workers and was responsible for the creation of several facilities across the United States, including LaGuardia Airport and Camp David. Following his prepared remarks he answered questions from members of the audience. close
