Justice John Paul Stevens addressed the Chicago Bar Association on the topic of judicial activism. His speech followed the presentation of the CBA’s annual John Paul Stevens Award.

America and the Courts also included a reshowing of President George Bush’s October 30 speech from the East Room of the White House. In a 16-minute speech just before the November 5 midterm elections,

he outlined an administration plan to expedite the consideration of judicial

nominees.

Also included was a video clip of an October 30 Washington Journal segment. Judge Diana Murphy, the chair of the U.S. Sentencing Commission and a judge on the 8th Circuit Court of Appeals, took calls from viewers on the role of the U.S. Sentencing Commission in developing guidelines for sentencing in federal
