America and the Courts featured Supreme Court attorneys' news conferences and Professor Patterson on Brown v. Board of Education.

In the first segment, following an introduction by Mr. Savage, attorneys talked with reporters about oral arguments before the U.S. Supreme Court in the case of Rush Prudential HMO v. Debra Moran. The case questioned whether states could require health maintenance organizations (HMO) to submit medical necessity decisions to an independent review board. The lower court ruled the HMO should pay for a surgery based on the state’s review and medical expert opinion.

In the second segment, Professor Patterson talked about the Brown v. Board of Education case, its impact on the civil rights movement, and its potentially troubling legacy. close
