During the scholar’s forum “Judge Samuel A. Alito, Jr.: An African-American Perspective,” a panel discussion was held on the record of U.S. Supreme Court nominee Samuel Alito. The panelists discussed the nominee’s opinions as an appellate judge and service as an administration lawyer for former President Ronald Reagan. They concluded that Judge Alito would be hostile to civil rights advances, including voting rights, employment discrimination, affirmative action, and immigration. Following their remarks, they responded to questions and comments from members of the audience. Mr. Douglas moderated the event. close
