On Tuesday, January 24, 2006:

The Senate Judiciary Committee, in a 10 to 8 party-line vote, sent the nomination of Samuel Alito to the full Senate for approval.

Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Arlen Specter spoke to reporters about the hearing on the nomination of Judge Samuel Alito and announced that debate on the Senate floor would begin the next day.

Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid and Judiciary Committee Ranking Member Patrick Leahy spoke to the press about why they did not approve of the nomination of Judge Alito.


On Wednesday, January 25, 2006, Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist (R-TN) opened the Senate debate on confirming the nomination of Judge Alito. On the same day floor debate included Senator Hillary Clinton (D-NY), and on Thursday, January 26, Senator Trent Lott (R-MS).
