Coeur d'Alene and the Lumber Industry

Historian Robert Singletary talked about the growth of the logging industry and how the industry built modern day Coeur d’Alene. A report submitted by the U.S. government in 1898 highlighted Coeur d’Alene’s potential as a lumber producer. The report prompted major timber companies to move to the small town creating a boom in the area. Singletary spoke about how the industry prospered, and what led to the demise of the city’s logging industry.

C-SPAN’s Local Content Vehicles (LCVs) made a stop in their “2013 LCV Cities Tour” in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, from November 4-7 to feature the history and literary life of the community. Working with the Time Warner Cable local affiliate, they visited literary and historic sites where local historians, authors, and civic leaders were interviewed. The history segments air on American History TV (AHTV) on C-SPAN3 and the literary events/non-fiction author segments air on BookTV on C-SPAN2. close
