Mr. Hagar moderated a panel discussion, titled "35 Years: A Roundtable Discussion with All Living EPA Administrators," at a symposium commemorating the agency's 35th anniversary. Six former Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) administrators, five Republicans and one Democrat, said the Bush administration was neglecting global warming and other environmental problems. Stephen Johnson, the current administrator, joined the panel in discussing issues including climate change, the Kyoto treaty, and controls on carbon dioxide.
Three former administrators were not in attendance: Mike Leavitt, the current health and human services secretary; Doug Costle, who was in the Carter administration; and Anne Burford, a Reagan appointee who died the previous year.
