Colombian Minister of National Defense Juan Manuel Santos talked about the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) and prospects for concluding the conflict between regional governments and FARC. He also spoke about an operation conducted on July 2, 2008, in which Colombian military intelligence and special forces liberated three U.S. hostages, former Colombian presidential candidate Ingrid Betancourt, and 11 Colombian police and soldiers who had been held by the FARC for as many as 11 years. Minister Santos responded to questions from audience members. close
