The Center for American Progress released a report which found that the average teacher is absent 10 days per school year. They extrapolated this number to show that when the average student completes 12th grade, they would have accumulated 2/3 of a school year being taught by a substitute teacher, at a total cost of $4 billion.

The panel discussed the implications of the report as well as the study of teacher absences in general. They answered questions from the audience. Cynthia Brown moderated. close
