Diane Weiland talked about the Wallace family, who influenced the development of American agriculture and agricultural policy. The farm at the Wallace Centers of Iowa Country Life Center was the birthplace of Henry A. Wallace, the most well known member of the Wallace family. He served as U.S. Secretary of Agriculture from 1933 to 1940, U.S. Vice President from 1941 to 1945, and U.S. Secretary of Commerce from 1945 to 1946.

C-SPAN’s Local Content Vehicles (LCVs) made a stop in their “2014 LCV Cities Tour” in Des Moines, Iowa, from June 22-26 to feature the history and literary life of the community. Working with the Mediacom cable local affiliate, they visited literary and historic sites where local historians, authors, and civic leaders were interviewed. The history segments aired on American History TV (AHTV) on C-SPAN3 and the literary events/non-fiction author segments aired on BookTV on C-SPAN2. close
