Tony Horwitz talked about the early European explorers who arrived to the continental U.S.. He spoke on the misconceptions of most Americans in relation to the early explorers, how one can claim to “discover” a place that had active civilizations, the disjointed American history curriculum offered in most schools, and initial contacts between Europeans and natives. He offered humorous anecdotes from the explorers to illustrate the interactions they had with native cultures. He used first hand accounts by early explorers to write his book. He answered questions from the audience.

Tony Horwitz is the author of A Voyage Long & Strange: Rediscovering the New World, published by Henry Holt and Company. close
