Allis and Ronald Radosh talked about their book A Safe Haven: Harry S. Truman and the Founding of Israel (Harper; May 12, 2009). On May 14, 1948, the United States became the first nation to recognize the State of Israel just moments after sovereignty had been declared in Jerusalem. Based on never-before-used archival material, Allis Radosh and Ronald Radosh recount the events that lead to this controversial announcement by President Harry Truman. After the authors made presentations, Bret Stephens interviewed them on stage at the YIVO Institute for Jewish Research on Israel’s 61st anniversary. Then they responded to questions from members of the audience.

Allis Radosh has served as a program officer at the National Endowment for the Humanities and has taught at Sarah Lawrence College and the City University of New York. She is the co-author with Ronald Radosh of Red Star Over Hollywood.
