Carola Suarez-Orozco and Marcelo Suarez-Orozco talked about their book, Learning A New Land: Immigrant Students in American Society They presented their five-year study of the children of American immigrants. Mr. and Mrs. Orozco studied children emigrating from Central America, China, the Caribbean and Mexico to Boston and San Francisco and argue that a child’s detachment from their country of origins culture and language can prevent the support needed to encourage educational success. The authors also make recommendations that include the improvement of American schools that reward multilingualism. They responded to questions from audience members. close
