Sen. Bentsen’s remarks focused on the Democratic Party’s bid for the presidency in 1992. He said that “this is an important time for us (Americans) and it is a moment of truth for Democrats.” The word is out, according to Bentsen, that Democrats just can’t win the White House in 1992, that the party is going to lose seats in the Senate and that there will be a massive realignment in the House. But he said, “I don’t believe a word of it, and you shouldn’t either. The past has shown that the Democratic Party wins in spite of all the polls and doomsayers.” close
