Witnesses testified about the global AIDS pandemic and the need to develop an effective HIV vaccine. Topics included levels of foreign aid and education in developing countries, the costs of vaccinations, the scope of the pandemic in Africa, and clinical progress in vaccine development. Ms. Judd showed a video of her trip to Africa. Representative Pete Visclosky (D-IN) testified about the bicameral, bipartisan Lugar bill he had introduced in the House, which was intended to fight HIV/AIDS worldwide. He talked about detailed international statistics and encouraged international coordination to fight the HIV pandemic. close
