Mr. Sorley spoke about his book, A Better War: The Unexamined Victories and the Final Tragedy of America’s Last Years in Vietnam, published by Harcourt Brace on June 3, 1999, and about its relavence to the current debate over military policy in Afghanistan. In his book, Mr. Sorley concentrated on the second half of the war, arguing that General Creighton Abrams' strategy almost succeeded, at least until political leadership in the U.S. let victory slip away. He also responded to telephone calls and electronic communication.
