Mr. Nagel talked about his new book, John Quincy Adams: A Public Life, A Private Life, published by Knopf. The book details the complex personality of President Adams and his political career which saw him become secretary of state, president, senator and representative. Mr. Nagel argues that President Adams was one of the "most useful politicians" in American history.
