Professor Laqueur talked about his book, The Long Road to Freedom: Russia and Glasnost. He described Soviet Union history and his research into the current state of glasnost, Soviet politics under President Gorbachev, and the Soviet Union since the Bolshevik revolution of 1917.

Laqueur discussed the historical roots that make up the Russian

character and he analyzed the development of Soviet culture. He

particularly addressed the role of individual Soviet leaders such as

Lenin, Stalin, Kruschev and Breznehev. close
