Tocqueville and Beaumont visited Fort Gratiot on their way westward through the Great Lakes region in August 1831. Port Huron is on the former site of Fort Gratiot. Mr. Williams talked about the history of Fort Gratiot and what Tocqueville observed while there. Rep. Capps talked about how Tocqueville’s ideas are relevant to his life as a teacher and current member of Congress.
