Members of the Early Childhood, Youth & Families Subcommittee and the Oversight & Investigations Subcommittee heard testimony on the future of the National Endowment for the Arts. Rep. Armey and several committee members criticized the agency for censorship, lack of moral judgement and bureaucratic excesses. Ms. Alexander, Mr. Baldwin and several Democratic committee members defended the agency and stressed the importance of federal funding for the arts.
