Senators Daschle and Reid briefed reporters on their opposition to the Republican Balanced Budget Amendment. Senator Reid is the sponsor of an amendment which would take the Social Security trust fund off budget, and therefore not subject to the Balanced Budget Amendment. They also took questions about other issues, including the Senate Governmental Affairs Committee investigation into campaign finance irregularities.
