Funeral services were held at the Washington National Cathedral for the U.S. Ambassador to France Pamela Harriman. Wearing a tie given to him by Ambassador Harriman the last time they met, President Bill Clinton and Vice President Al Gore spoke at the event. Ambassador Harriman was married to Randolph Churchill. She was also the widow of Ambassador W. Averell Harriman Among her pallbearers were former House Speaker Thomas Foley, former diplomat Richard Holbrooke and presidential adviser Vernon Jordan. close
