Three third party candidates debated national issues at the National Press Club, including welfare reform and international trade. Ms. Laszlo moderated the rounds of questions and 30-second answers. The candidates also took questions from the audience. Mr. Browne, who is on every state ballot, said his party advocates individual liberty and personal responsibility. Mr. Hagelin said the Natural Law Party would solve America’s problems through the power of science. Mr. Phillips advocated abolishing the Internal Revenue Service and returning to Bible-centered jurisprudence. Ms. Moorehead and several supporters delayed the beginning of the debate by demonstrating on the stage, saying she was excluded because she is a black woman. Her supporters were escorted out of the room by security personnel. Ms. Moorehead left shortly after that.
