Ms. Rivlin, Mr. Baily and Mr. Cohen briefed reporters and answered questions about the findings of the mid-session review of the federal budget. Ms. Rivlin reported that the latest estimate for the budget deficit for Fiscal Year 1995 is $160 billion, 45 percent below what it was 3 years ago. She said the review confirmed that the policies announced in the president’s ten-year balanced budget plan would turn the deficit into surplus by 2005.
