Observing the 25th Anniversary of the Kent State University shootings, the participants reviewed national and international events leading up to the incident. On May 4, 1970, approximately 3,000 students gathered near the university commons to protest the U.S. invasion of Cambodia. The Ohio National Guard had been dispatched to the Kent State campus a few days earlier by Governor Governor Jim Rhodes. The guardsmen fired on the crowd killing four and injuring nine persons. close
