In Annapolis, Maryland, President Bill Clinton addressed the graduating class of the U.S. Naval Academy. In his remarks, the President spoke on his upcoming trip to Europe to mark the 50th anniversary of D-Day. The President noted the accomplishments of D-Day veterans after they returned home--creation of the G.I. Bill and the interstate highway system--and asked the Academy graduates to think about what their generation will accomplish. The President discussed his “Bottom-Up Review,” a sweeping review to ensure that in this new era our nation has the right-sized Armed Forces for the post-Cold War era, and spoke on the defense budget, deficit reduction, and several other issues. Following the President’s address, he handed diplomas to a number of top students and received presents from the graduating class. close
