Professor Brinkley discussed his book, Unfinished Nation: A Concise History of the American People, published by Alfred A. Knopf. He chose the name for the book for reasons that dealt with the character of the nation and the character of historical writing. His intention was to avoid textbook-type writing. He wanted to make history more accessible to all levels of students, creating a concise, yet readable history. He included voting figures and various tables in the book. close
