In an excerpt from the session of the House of Representatives, members debated an amendment to the Energy Appropriations bill that would remove funding for the superconducting super collider program under construction in Texas. Opponents of the project cite cost overruns and skyrocketing construction estimates, which have doubled to over $11 billion since the inception of the project. Supporters of the supercollider stated that current investment, jobs, and the research benefits of the project support its continuation. The House eventually approved the amendment to eliminate funding for the project in a vote of 280-150. close
