The chairs of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) testified at a hearing on their agencies' respective fiscal year 2018 budget requests. SEC Chair Jay Clayton explained his agency’s goals that broadly aim to promote market growth and protect investors. CFTC Acting Chair Chris Giancarlo talked about efforts intended to bring together what he called “fragmented” markets in order to bolster the U.S. economy.
