1984 Democratic presidential nominee Walter Mondale responded to questions from reporters after being nominated ambassador to Japan by President Clinton in an announcement in the Rose Garden. He responded to questions on his approach to the new position, and also briefly reflected on his beliefs in his 1984 presidential campaign.
