President Obama and German Chancellor Angela Merkel held a joint news conference in Berlin during the president’s sixth visit to Germany. Both leaders spoke highly about their eight-year friendship and transatlantic partnership, as well as future relations with Russia and political stability in Syria. On President-elect Donald Trump, President Obama told reporters he does not expect him to follow the exact same foreign policy blueprint, but challenged Mr. Trump to stand up to Russia if the nation deviates from U.S. values and international norms. He added that Mr. Trump ran an “unconventional campaign” that was likely the “biggest political upset in modern American history.”
