Mark Rosekind, administrator of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), testified on self-driving cars. He addressed the benefits of automated vehicles saying this technology had the potential to “revolutionize roadway safety” and “eliminate traffic fatalities altogether.” In addition, the administrator outlined NHTSA’s initiative to facilitate the safe and efficient development and deployment of this technology. The auto trade group leaders and consumer advocacy experts testified about the implications of this technology on roadway safety and the economy. In addition, the witnesses discussed potential cybersecurity risks and the timeline for self-driving cars to be universally adopted in the U.S.
