Director of National Intelligence James Clapper talked about intelligence gathering and national security threats. He discussed with David Ignatius efforts to combat ISIL*, saying the military strategy was working in Iraq and Syria, but the U.S. would be in the business of suppressing extremist movements for some time. In addition, Director Clapper talked about the Edward Snowden revelations saying he would not offer him a pardon or agree to a negotiated settlement. Other topics addressed included North Korea’s nuclear program, cyber attacks on the U.S. political system and Russian aggression.

This was the third program in the series “Securing Tomorrow with David Ignatius” at The Washington Post Live Center. Raytheon was the presenting sponsor.

*The Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), or the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS or DAISH/DAESH in Arabic), is a militant group that has called itself the Islamic State. close
