The U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum held an annual remembrance ceremony to honor victims and survivors of the Holocaust. Speakers remembered the mixed history of the United States in countering the Holocaust and the necessity of continually fighting hateful speech.

The ceremony in the U.S. Capitol Visitor Center’s Emancipation Hall included music by the U.S. Army Band and a procession of the flags of the Army divisions that liberated concentration camps. A color ceremony included the national anthem. Senator Ben Cardin and Representative Donald Beyer assisted Holocaust survivors in lighting the six memorial candles. A prayer for the dead and the Kaddish were recited. The division flags retired to the “Hymn of the Partisans.” close
