Senators Reid (D-NV), Durbin (D-IL), Grassley (R-IA), Collins (R-ME), and Scott (R-S) gave speeches about the late-term abortion bill. They spoke prior to a cloture vote on H.R. 36, a bill to ban abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy, with exceptions in cases of rape, incest, or if the mother’s life was in danger. Senators Durbin and Collins opposed the bill, Senator Collins saying she hasd reservations about some of the provisions dealing with rape and incest. Senator Scott supported the bill, saying the U.S. should join all but seven nations in enacting this law. Each speaker cited medical studies. close
