President Obama talked about consumer protection and the economy during an address at Lawson State Community College in Birmingham, Alabama. He outlined new steps by the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau to target abusive actions by pay-day lenders. He also praised the House of Representatives for passing legislation that permanently prevents a cut in payments to doctors who treat Medicare patients, also known as the “doc fix.” The president said he had called House Speaker John Boehner and Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi to congratulate them. close
