The United Nations Security Council held an emergency meeting to address the Ebola virus outbreak in Liberia, Sierra Leone, and Guinea, and that had also reached Nigeria and Senegal. U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon appeared before the council to announce an emergency U.N. mission in western Africa to address the outbreak. The council then unanimously passed a resolution which declared Ebola a threat to international peace and security, and called on all countries to provide increased support to the affected region in the form of medical supplies and personnel.
