Barry Werth talked about his book 31 Days: The Crisis That Gave Us the Government We Have Today, published by Nan A. Talese. He described the tumultuous first month of the Ford administration and the days that led up to his pardon of former President Nixon. He recounted the challenges President Ford had to face on his arrival at the White House after President Nixon’s resignation and explained that President Ford had to balance two mistrustful staffs, his own and that of former President Nixon. He also discussed why George H. Bush was not chosen as President Ford’s vice president and discussed the roles of Dick Cheney and Donald Rumsfeld in the formation of the new Ford administration. After his presentation he answered audience members' questions. close
