Secretary Jeh Johnson testified at a Senate Judiciary Committee oversight hearing on the Department of Homeland Security. In opening remarks, Secretary Johnson spoke about the department’s actions in response to an increase in unaccompanied child immigrants crossing the U.S.-Mexico border, calling it a problem of “humanitarian proportions.” Secretary Johnson also told the committee he has ordered the agency to review policies regarding the release of criminal immigrants. Other topics included immigration reform and border deportation polices. This was Secretary Johnson’s first appearance before the committee since being confirmed. close
