Moscow-based journalist Masha Gessen talked about her book, Words Will Break Cement: The Passion of Pussy Riot, in which she profiles the feminist punk rock collective, Pussy Riot, whose criticism of Russian President Vladimir Putin resulted in the arrest and imprisonment of three of its members in 2012. In her book, the author reports on the political and social landscape that led to the creation of the collective and their many actions leading up to their arrest for “hooliganism” on February 21, 2012, at the Cathedral of Christ in the Savior in Moscow. Masha Gessen spoke with Suzi Weissman, politics professor at Saint Mary’s College of California. close
