Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz spoke at a National Press Club luncheon about the U.S. domestic energy production. He announced that the government wouldl complete $6.5 billion in loan guarantees for construction of two nuclear reactors near Augusta, Georgia, the first new reactors built in the nation in more than 30 years. He said that nuclear power was a part of President Obama’s “all of the above” strategy aimed at reducing carbon emissions. He called recent weather patterns related to global climate change “alarming,” and said the Energy Department would be focused on policies aimed at coping with severe weather events. He responded to questions submitted by members of the audience. close
