Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Chair Tom Wheeler spoke about broadband telecommunications and social justice, including minority participation in media. Much of his speech was in response to a January 14, 2014, District of Columbia Circuit Court of Appeals ruling that the FCC does not have the authority to regulate Internet access services to enforce what is known as “net neutrality.” He stressed the importance of an open Internet and vowed that the commission would fight to preserve such openness.

This was a keynote address of the Minority Media and Telecommunications Council’s 5th Annual Broadband and Social Justice Summit, “Bridging the Gap: Infrastructure, Education, & Equity in the Digital Economy.” close
