Telephone lines were open for comments on the extended unemployment benefits expiring that day for 1.3 million people. Vicki Needham, staff writer for The Hill, reported by telephone on what was being done by members of Congress to extend the unemployment benefits that expired that day. A commercial was played in which Americans United for Change blamed the loss of benefits on the Republican Party. A video clip was shown of House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) speaking December 11, 2013, about extending the benefits.

The program concluded with a video clip of Randi Weingarten, president of the American Federation of Teachers, being interviewed December 20, 2013, for “Newsmakers.” close
