Christine Lagarde spoke about the state of the global economy. She said that the on-going political uncertainty over the federal budget and debt ceiling debate “does not help” the stability of the U.S. economy. She also said that the federal government shutdown “is bad enough, but the failure to increase the debt ceiling would be far worse and would cause serious damage to the U.S. as well as to the entire global economy.” Following her address, she took questions from the audience, moderated by George Washington University Assistant Economics Professor Irene Foster. close
