At the annual American Bar Association conference, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton received the highest award of the ABA, the 2013 ABA Medal, for conspicuous service in the cause of American Jurisprudence. In her acceptance speech, topics included her career, women in leadership, and voting rights. She urged the ABA to take action as she talked about the Supreme Court’s recent decision to strike down a key section of the Voting Rights Act and recent laws passed around the country limiting people’s ability to vote. She called the reasons for passing the laws as solving a “phantom” problem and said “Anyone who says racial discrimination is no longer a problem in American elections, must not be paying attention.” close
