Professor Madison also explained how the KKK has had two additional distinct revivals, beginning with its origins after the Civil War as a southern organization made up of Confederate veterans fighting against reconstruction and full citizenship for African Americans, and the present Klan which he states is nothing more than a fringe hate group.
