Panelists talked about reducing stigma and providing assistance for those with mental health issues. Secretary Kathleen Sebelius began the forum by reading statistics on perceptions toward people suffering from mental illness. Discussion topics included better training for mental health employees, partnerships with student affairs at universities and colleges, and the link between substance abuse and mental illness. Former Representative Patrick Kennedy (D-MA) and Senator Deb Stabenow (D-MI) make brief comments during the audience question portion of the event.

This program was part of the White House’s National Conference on Mental Health, an effort to increase awareness and understanding of mental health issues. close
